Other Peoples’ Lives

2000 lbs. of used clothing
Other People’s Lives could be described as a conceptual group portrait. I managed to get hold of eight 250 lb. bales of used clothing and installed them in Houston’s Artcar Museum where they were displayed (still baled) as a wall of clothing for a January 2000 show called “Mania”. At the conclusion of that show, we undid the bales and had dozens of people put the clothes on for a panoramic portrait. In April 2000, the clothes were installed at Lawndale Art Center in Houston (as pictured below) for a solo show called “Other People’s Lives”. Finally, the clothes were redistributed to charities around Houston and put back into use.
